No. It's a meaningless honor, of course.
Megadeth will likely never get in, unfortunately- they are too underground. My favorite metal band. But the powers that be pretty much overlook artists in favor of sales- has Tom Waits even been nominated? How about Rush? For that matter, what about KISS? Not that I'm calling Kiss great artists, but they ruled the hard rock scene in the late 70's- very influential. Why would the Beastie Boys (GAG...) get in but not these guys? And don't get me started on Motorhead- Lemmy is the King of Rock, no contest- and Motorhead single-handedly started speed/thrash metal and influenced countless bands while maintaining their artistic integrity.

No only bands that sell trillions of records and appeal to 90% of the population get in. It's not about music, it's about popularity.
